A building you walked past every day. A stretch of line you know by heart. A face you miss. Send the idea and the photographs, and K.P. Butler will tell you honestly whether it is a drawing he can do justice to.
How it works
Four steps, no surprises.
01
Send the idea
Use the form below. Tell him what the subject is, why it matters, and roughly what size you have in mind. Attach the best reference photographs you have.
02
An honest answer
He will come back to you about whether it is a piece he can do justice to, what it would involve, and what it would cost. Some subjects suit graphite better than others, and he will say so.
03
Agree the piece
Size, framing and timescale are confirmed in writing before anything is drawn, so you know exactly what you are getting.
04
Drawn by hand
The work is done in graphite on paper, in stages, and you will see it progress. Delivery and framing are arranged once it is finished.
What makes a good reference
The drawing can only be as good as what it is drawn from. Send the largest, sharpest photographs you have — straight from the camera or phone rather than pulled from social media, which compresses them heavily. Daylight beats flash. Several angles help more than one perfect shot. If the subject no longer exists, older photographs are welcome; just send everything you have.
Start an enquiry
Sending an enquiry does not commit you to anything, and it is not an automatic acceptance of the commission. It starts a conversation.
